Trusts and Supervisors

Placements at REACHE provide members with an invaluable opportunity to experience clinical work in the NHS. Depending on the placement, the member may hold observer status as a clinical attachee or undertake honorary FY1 work in the Clinical Practical Training (CPT) scheme.

Members on placements are encouraged to manage their own reflective logbooks to make the most of this experience. The REACHE North West administrative staff liaise with your Trust's HR and Occupational Health departments to make the necessary arrangements.

A member's duties during a CPT may include:

  • Provision of inpatient care (history taking, clerking, investigation of patients)
  • Attendance at outpatient clinics (history taking, clerking, arranging investigations)
  • Managing accurate, detailed clinical notes
  • Assistance with operating lists by arrangement
  • Participation in clinical audit
  • Attending appraisals

Testimonials

I have hosted numerous REACHE doctors on clinical attachments and clinical practical training placements over the years. I have always found them to be keen and enthusiastic to learn and to integrate into NHS practice. It has been a pleasure to see them develop from diffident and nervous individuals into confident doctors. I have learned much from their quiet dignity and resilience in the face of unspoken adversity.

REACHE doctors are highly appreciative of the opportunities and the majority go on to substantive posts after their clinical placement training. Despite the challenges many of these doctors are facing, many appear very resilient, patient and forbearing. Some wait many years for this opportunity.

I found the doctor to be extremely professional and well instructed by the REACHE team as to how to achieve the most out of the placement. The doctor worked very diligently and conscientiously within the team and developed a great rapport with everyone, They managed to experience ward work, attended clinics and theatres as well as shadowing the on call team. We managed to secure a temporary role for the doctor within our department so they could start their career within the NHS. This led to the doctor successfully being appointed to a fixed term role at the end of their placement with us!

REACHE members have been excellent at multiple levels from SHO to Consultant and GP. REACHE's training is exemplary and covers professionalism to a high standard. From a cost savings perspective, having REACHE members has been cost-efficient and effective in reducing locum costs.
