Clinical Tutoring

The REACHE Clinical Tutors provide a fully comprehensive programme, meaning we help members prepare for the PLAB exams, register with the General Medical Council, and ensure that they are ready for and supported into NHS employment.

Our PLAB curriculum is based on the GMC's MLA Content Map and delivered by experienced clinicians, including our in-house tutors and external volunteers. This gives members the opportunity to learn from experts from a range of medical specialities.

The Clinical Tutors prepare members for the PLAB exams by updating their clinical skills through teaching and practical sessions. They helps members practise clinical reasoning: the study of how an experienced doctor thinks and makes logical decisions which, when practised well, improves patient care. Members are introduced to important topics related to working in the UK, and supported to develop professional behaviours that will keep patients and colleagues safe and effective in clinical work.

We undertake regular assessments and provide termly mock exams to ensure members have full insight into their progress, targets for improvement and exam readiness.

Members who have passed the PLAB or Royal College exams while holding a valid OET certificate join our Post-PLAB 2 programme. At this stage, members continue to attend clinical classes to keep their skills and knowledge up to date while preparing for work in the NHS. We also offer support with gaining full GMC registration.

Placements

Between the PLAB 1 and PLAB 2 exams, members may be offered the opportunity to complete a Clinical Attachment placement, which is 4-week observership designed to allow members to gain an overview of medical processes and systems in the NHS.

Once registered with the GMC, members may have the opportunity to complete a Clinical Practical Training (CPT) placement. Clinical Practical Training enables members to refresh their skills in a hospital environment under a specialist supervisor, deepen their insight into working with the NHS, and provide patient care at a level equivalent to that of a Foundation Year 1 doctor.
